ABOUT INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ROORKEE
The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is the successor to the University of Roorkee and is the oldest technical institution in India. It was originally established as Roorkee College of Engineering in 1847 and was later renamed Thomason College of Civil Engineering in 1857. On November 25, 1949, it was elevated to the status of the first technical university of independent India. In 2001, it was declared an Institute of National Importance and was formally converted into IIT Roorkee on September 21, 2001.
ABOUT NIH ROORKEE
The National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) is a premier research and development organization in the field of hydrology and water resources in India. Established in 1978, NIH is an autonomous society under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India, with its headquarters in Roorkee. The institute undertakes, aids, promotes, and coordinates systematic and scientific research in all aspects of hydrology. NIH has a pan-India presence, with seven regional centers located in different physiographic regions of the country. The institute’s scientific and technical expertise in conducting hydrological and water resources research is well recognized both nationally and internationally.
